Breadboard’s Interactive Initiative “Art in the Air” Invites Local Artists to Apply

Art in the AirNext time you’re stuck in traffic on the Schuylkill and staring up at the towering PECO building, wouldn’t time go by a little bit faster if you saw your artwork shining out for Philadelphia to see?

Starting in September, scrolling neon messages are being cast aside on the Crown Lights to be replaced by digital works created by local artists.

Art in the Air, a digital art initiative created back in 2010 through a partnership between Breadboard — a University City Science Center program — and PECO, spotlights pieces by artists who specialize in digital video and animation.

Each Friday evening, the Tower’s standard LED signage of temperatures and times will be joined by video animated displays illuminating the skyline.

Art in the Air offers electronic media artists the chance to apply now through April 2013, by submitting online.
