ACHIEVEability will be inviting groups as small as 4 to 5 volunteers and as large as 30 to 40 volunteers, to paint and rehab one of our 158 housing properties.  Due to special circumstances, ACHIEVEability will have an unusually high number of vacant properties in the coming months. Vacant units mean more families on the waiting list to start their journey to self-sufficiency, higher than budgeted costs to ACHIEVEability and lost rental income. Therefore, the more volunteers that participate in #GivingTuesday, the more families we can transition into self-sufficiency.

AAU

Asian Americans United CAMPAIGN

On December 3rd, 2009, 26 Asian immigrant students were attacked both inside and directly outside of South Philadelphia High School. The students boycotted school for eight days, demanding accountability from school leadership. AAU worked with a strong and passionate team of allies to support the students. Most importantly, the students were unified, they stood strong and they didn’t back down…and a new generation of community leaders was born.

This Tuesday, Dec. 3rd, we remember the 4th anniversary of the SPHS student boycott and we also continue to develop student leadership through the Chinese Youth Organizing Project (CYOP). AAU’s youth programs develop youth to become individually, socially, and politically aware, exercise their voice and participate in active struggles for justice. Through this work, we create leaders who sustain, fight for, and give back to our communities.

CASA of Philadelphia County CAMPAIGN

Catholic Social Services/Archdiocese of Philadelphia CAMPAIGN

We at Mercy Hospice, which is a site of Catholic Social Services, provide daily meals to a more than 100 homeless women. In addition, we provide showers and toiletries as well as life skills workshops.
We also have 49 resident women with children on a temporary basis (3 months) until we find a more stable place for them.
We’re in need of volunteers to donate food, clothing, toiletries and $$$ to build another shower and improve the fitness room for the women.

They see the same commercials & billboards that other children see, but they are from families who live far below the poverty line and cannot afford gifts. There are also children and youth in Tabor’s care who do not come from poverty alone; they are survivors of abuse or neglect. The Tabor Holiday Gift Program is really about more than the gift; it is about providing a sense of normalcy and happiness for children and youth during the holiday season. University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology CAMPAIGN

The Penn Museum is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the arrival of our giant and iconic Egyptian sphinx. In honor of this historic occasion, we have launched an initiative to raise gifts to the Annual Fund from “100 Donors in 100 Days”. The sphinx serves as an inspiring example of all that the Penn Museum accomplishes, from welcoming visitors and educating school children and adults about human history, to caring for a remarkable collection of nearly one million artifacts and offering compelling exhibitions and programming.

Gifts to the Annual Fund are the lifeblood of this living, breathing museum. They underwrite our day-to-day operations, support our staff in more than 50 research projects around the globe, maintain our historic home, and keep admission prices low so that as many people as possible may visit the Museum.

Uptown! Entertainment Alliance CAMPAIGN

As part of #GivingTuesdayPHL, Uptown! Entertainment Alliance (UEA) will be kicking off our Capital Campaign which will raise funds to build a theater in West Chester. The theater will serve as a home for the arts in Chester County and provide a place for organizations to bring their work to life!

Project Ready is about empowering urban high school schools and preparing them for college and career. The Urban League of Philadelphia is raising funds to expand Project Ready, which current serves about 30 students, to enable more young people to graduate from high school, go to college and become financially independent. William Way LGBT Community Center CAMPAIGN

Philadelphia’s William Way LGBT Community Center is a safe place where LGBTQ friends and allies connect, build community, and access life-affirming programs. William Way is open 365 days a year! On #GivingTuesday, the Center will be buzzing with activity as usual, including our weekly MorningsOut Senior Social event, our weekly Tai Chi class, and our Peer Counselors will be working the phone lines in the evening – as they do every weeknight. Our Library and Reading Room will be open with 10,000+ books to choose from, one of the nation’s largest collections of LGBT-related fiction and non-fiction. That day, as always, we will proudly host Recovery groups. We’ll have researchers and volunteers working in the Archives, members and friends using the lobby as a place to work, stop in for some warmth, and get information about upcoming events.
