Wanted: a few good men in Bucks County

We received an email a few days ago from Beth Baker, of Deserving Décor, a nonprofit which offers furnishing and interior decorating services to transitional housing and homeless shelters in Bucks County. (We ran a story on her organization in July – read more about it here.)

She'd responded to our Flash Drive, where we're offering $50 to the first 100 nonprofits to create PayPal accounts with us. She wanted to let us know that with her $50, she'd been able to buy five sets of twin sheets “on sale at K Mart.” She was pretty psyched. So were we. She's been self-funding her operation, with no time for fund-raising, so $50 for her goes a long way. But she also wanted to spread the word about other things she's looking for. So we were happy to oblige.

Here's Deserving Decor's shopping list:

1) A strong man or men to help move furniture. (Strong women too are welcome, but Beth's had to bow out of this activity, due to back injuries.)

2) A donated warehouse, ideally 2500 square feet, to house the plentiful furniture and household items donated by generous Bucks County residents. Her vision is to set up a Furniture Bank for Bucks County. She had to give up her previous warehouse due to lack of money.

3) People to help her furnish housing in Lower County, Bensalem, Morrisville and Penndel. (“I get plenty of volunteers for Doylestown,” she notes.) She furnishes two to three per month, as families move in and out.

4) Any bedding, lamps and artwork people are looking to give away.

5) An outreach volunteer to help her connect with civic organizations, and a volunteer co-ordinator to work with people who want to get involved.

6) Hard cash gratefully received.
